Bumble Bee Tuna, LLC has discovered a "process deviation" in one of its co-packer facilities involving the sterilization process (probably involving cooking process). This mistake could cause contamination or spoilage of the canned tuna, leading to possibly severe food poisoning. Although no illness have been reported, Bumble Bee is recalling certain cans of tuna effected by the mistake. This recall is being initiated at the same time as a similar recall on Chicken of the Sea canned tuna products.
This recalls involved 31,579 cases of canned tuna. Note that no tuna pouches are involved, only cans. The cans were shipped nationwide in February, 2016. The products are the 5 oz can of Bumblebee chunk light tuna in water, the 4-pk of 5 oz cans of chunk light tuna in water, and the 5 oz can of chunk light tuna in vegetable oil. The cans subject to the recall have a code marked with a "T" such as TOA2BSCAFB, and include the "best by dates" listed in the table below.

If you have any of these products with a "T" in the can code, Bumble Bee is advising that you throw them away. This deviation in production was found during a routine quality audit by Bumble Bee, and the company is initiating the recall out of an abundance of caution. The company, co-packer, and the FDA are working to remove the products from store shelves as quickly as possible.
If you would like information on how to get reimbursed for the products, or you have additional questions about the recall, you can contact Bumble Bee at (888) 820-1947 between the hours of 9am and 6pm EST seven days a week or visit www.bumblebee.com/recall-march-2016disclaimer icon.
